Clinova follows a rigorous double-blind peer review system, where neither authors nor reviewers know each other's identities throughout the review process. This ensures unbiased evaluation based solely on scientific merit.
Clinova follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines at every stage of the publication process.
Clinova is indexed in the following major databases:
All published articles are archived in PORTICO for long-term digital preservation. Each article receives a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via CrossRef.
The editorial team of Clinova is committed to the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical practice in scholarly publishing. Our policies follow internationally recognized best practices including COPE, ICMJE, and WAME guidelines.
Plagiarism — whether of words, ideas, images, or data — is unacceptable. This includes self-plagiarism, where authors reuse their own previously published material without proper citation.
All manuscripts are screened using iThenticate before review. Editors and reviewers have access to these reports, and manuscripts with confirmed plagiarism are rejected outright.
Clinova follows a double-blind peer review system to ensure fair and unbiased evaluation. Author and reviewer identities are kept confidential throughout the review. We follow the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.
Authors must disclose any potential conflicts — financial or otherwise — at the time of submission. These disclosures appear in the published article. We follow COPE guidance on conflicts of interest.
Informed consent is required for all human participants. Manuscripts must include a statement confirming consent was obtained. Human studies require Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval with protocol number. Research involving humans must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki. Animal studies require institutional animal ethics committee approval.
Following WAME recommendations: AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) cannot be listed as authors. Any AI use in research, writing, or image preparation must be disclosed in the manuscript. Authors are fully responsible for accuracy, originality, and absence of plagiarism regardless of AI use.
All images must be at least 300 DPI resolution and, when applicable, contain clear arrows or markers highlighting key findings. Clinical photographs must have eyes obscured. Radiologic images must not display patient names or identification. Low-quality images may be returned for revision before review.
Manuscripts submitted by Editors-in-Chief or editorial board members are managed by independent editors without their involvement. The journal maintains transparent governance, international editorial oversight, external peer review, and full conflict-of-interest policies, ensuring editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit.
Authors must obtain written informed consent from all participants before enrollment. Consent must cover participation in the research and, where applicable, publication of identifiable information. The Methods section must include a statement confirming informed consent was obtained. Clinova reserves the right to request copies of signed consent forms at any stage before or after publication.
We follow COPE's core practices which include: Authorship and contributorship; Complaints and appeals; Conflicts of interest and competing interests; Data and reproducibility; Ethical oversight; Intellectual property; Journal management; Peer review processes; Post-publication discussions and corrections.
Complaints may be submitted directly to the Editor-in-Chief at editor@clinova.org. Unresolved cases may be referred to COPE.
Clinova is a fully open-access journal. Manuscripts published are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike 4.0 License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), which allows others to remix, transform, and build upon the work non-commercially, as long as appropriate credit is given and new creations are licensed under identical terms.
Clinova does not charge article processing fees (APCs). Publication is completely free for all authors.
All published articles are archived in PORTICO for long-term digital preservation. All articles are assigned a DOI via CrossRef. We are members of the CrossRef open metadata initiative.
While advertisements help sustain the journal, ethical considerations ensure the integrity and content of the journal are not biased or influenced. The Editorial Board has full and final approval over all advertisement content. Advertisers will never be shown any manuscripts or other content prior to publication.
